Blackmer Introduces STX1220A-DEF Sliding Vane Pump

26.05.2011

Blackmer has announced the availability of a new positive displacement sliding vane pump model—the STX1220A-DEF—that has been designed specifically for use in applications that require the handling of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).

DEF became an increasingly important part of the motor-fuel supply chain in January 2010 when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Tier 2 Emission Standards for Light Duty and Heavy Duty Vehicles went into effect. The technology chosen by most vehicle and engine manufacturers to facilitate this NOx reduction is called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which injects DEF—a mixture of 32.5% chemical urea and 67.5% deionized water—into the vehicle’s exhaust system where the NOx is then converted into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.

Recognizing the importance of the growing North American DEF market, Blackmer designed its new STX1220A-DEF pump to be compatible with DEF (much like its previous stainless-steel STX3-DEF model), but to operate at the lower flow rates that the handlers of DEF require. With that in mind, the STX1220A-DEF pump has a flow-rate range of 42 gpm (159 lpm) to 92 gpm (348 lpm). Other features of the STX1220A-DEF pump are:

  • Meets ISO 22241 material standards and cleanliness specifications required for DEF applications
  • 316 stainless-steel construction
  • Pushrod-free design that allows higher pump speeds from 700 to 1,200 rpm
  • Maximum viscosities of 100 SSU (22 cSt)
  • PTFE elastomers
  • 90-degree porting with weld flanges
  • Dimensional interchangeability with Blackmer TXD2 and TXD1220 pump models
  • Foot-mounting
  • Standard Duravanes
  • Chrome oxide-coated stainless-steel heads
  • Ball bearing construction with PTFE chemical mechanical seals
  • Internal adjustable relief valve
  • Three drain ports to allow draining in any mounting position
