Chairman of International Pump Industry Standardization Committee

The Hydraulic Institute (HI) announces the appointment of Stefan M. Abelin, director of engineering for ITT Flygt Corporation, based in Trumbull, CT, as HI’s chairman of the International Pump Industry Standardization Committee (IPSC).

IPSC is a joint committee comprised of HI and EUROPUMP members, representing the interests of European, Eastern European, and North American pump manufacturers in the development of global pump standards. Established in January 1998, the IPSC is responsible for introducing proposals to ISO/TC 115 “Pumps & Mixers” for international standards. Abelin will also handle liaison activities with CEN, EUROPUMP, and Orgalime.

He has also taken an active role on the Vibration Committee, Submersible Pump Test Committee, Life Cycle Cost Committee, Slurry Pump Committee, and on the Pump Piping Working Group, as well being a participant in EUROPUMP and ISO meetings.

With more than 23 years of experience in submersible pumps for the municipal sector, Abelin is currently Director of Engineering of ITT Flygt Corporation and responsible for all Engineering Department activities, including sales, technical and systems engineering support, electronic data management, and warranty and quality issues. During his tenure with Flygt, he championed the company’s participation in the U.S. Department of Energy Motor Challenge Program and developed highly successful systems and engineering education and training programs.
