Hydraulic Institute New E-Store Offers Extensive Product Line

09.01.2001

PARSIPPANY, N.J., January 8, 2001 - New 2000 Edition ANSI/HI Pump Standards, a new Life Cycle Cost User Guide, an energy reduction video education program, pump handbooks and industry market research highlight the continually expanding line of resources now available for secure purchase through the Hydraulic Institute (HI) new E-store at www.pumps.org. The site features easy ordering instructions and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. As a bonus, HI includes a complimentary Engineering Data Book (a $79.00 value) with orders totaling $250.00 or more.

"We continue to update and expand our reference offerings in order to help improve the industry’s knowledge about pumps and pumping systems," said Robert Asdal, executive director of HI. "We hope that by putting the latest industry information at people’s fingertips, we’re not only furthering pump users’ education, but making their jobs easier."

New Standards Available

The Year 2000 Edition ANSI/HI Pump Standards reference set contains the latest information on the full range of pump types, including definitions, industry terminology, design and application, installation, operation, maintenance guidelines and testing standards in U.S. and metric units. Based on the results of an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) canvass conducted over 18 months, the standards are available in various formats:

as a complete 21-document set, a total of more than 1000 pages, organized and packaged in five three-ring binders for $695.00.

as separate pump-type sets, available in a Centrifugal/Vertical set or as individual Centrifugal, Vertical, Rotary and Reciprocating pump sets, also packaged in three-ring binders. All sets are supplied with General Pump Guidelines and a master index, ranging from $150.00 to $495.00.

as individual documents, so a user can select the standard(s) relevant to his/her needs, ranging from $55.00 to $155.00.

on CD-ROM for single users. Encrypted for security purposes, the CD-ROM version allows a user to easily navigate directly to the section or reference with hypertext links from the index of each standard. This option also includes an update subscription for 2001 for $950.00.

Additionally, HI anticipates publishing five additional standards no later than first quarter 2001. They will include Controlled Volume Metering Pumps, Centrifugal/Vertical Nozzle Loads, Air Operated Pumps, Air Operated Pump Tests, and a Submersible Pump Test Standard. HI is currently developing a new Submersible Pump Test Standard in joint effort with the Submersible Wastewater Pump Association.

Downloadable Standards

Another new feature of the Year 2000 Edition is the user’s ability to download on-demand HI Standards in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) directly from the web site, www.pumps.org. All HI Standards in PDF format include a new and useful, fully hyper-text linked index. All PDFs are encrypted for security purposes. Mr. Asdal noted that "instant access to HI Standards in this manner is responsive to world-wide user needs."

Educational Offerings

The Institute’s educational products line features the joint HI /U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) video-based education program, titled "Energy Reduction in Pumps and Pumping Systems" ($295.00). The program presents energy-saving case studies and ways to save energy through changes in system design and application, which in most cases can produce energy savings up to 20 percent. The video illustrates some of the important points covered in the new HI and Europump book on "Pump Life Cycle Costs: A Guide to LCC Analysis for Pumping Systems." Web visitors are invited to register with HI using the online "Guest Book" for future updates and information.

Books and Manuals

In addition to standards, HI’s E-bookstore line currently includes pump books, handbooks, market research reports, and an engineering data book. The pump books, include McGraw-Hill’s newly revised Pump Handbook 3rd Edition; Centrifugal Pumps & Allied Machinery; as well as Improving Pumping System Performance: A Resource for Industry. Popular texts from Pump Users Handbook; Pump Station Design, 2nd Edition; Seals & Sealing; to Leak-free Pumps & Compressors, are available from $125.00 to $250.00. Market research references include Pumps World Market 1999-2004 ($4,900.00), Profile of the International Pump Industry: Market Prospects to 2004 ($1,250.00). The popular HI Engineering Data Book for $79.00 rounds out the line.

The 83-year old Hydraulic Institute, the largest association of pump producers in North America, serves member companies and pump users by providing product standards and forums for the exchange of industry information.
